Choosing a good club is always a challenging process for a true techno fan. Obviously, there are lots and lots of good clubs around the world, but just “good” sometimes isn’t enough. Therefore, in this article we have handpicked the rare jewels of techno clubs from the capitals of the countries around the world to give you the shortlist of places living up to the definition of truly the best. Not to tell you something you already know, we won’t mention the obvious kings likes of the Berghain, and DC-10. Contact, Tokyo, Japan
For the first lot of the article, we visit the shiny capital of Japan – Tokyo. Contact was opened in 2016 below the Shibuya O-East concert hall in the Shibuya district of Tokyo. The Global Hearts team, which is responsible for many places and parties in the Japanese capital controls this club, too.
Contact has two halls: the dance floor and the bar. Unfortunately, it’s not allowed to take pictures on the dance floor. If that’s a too much of a limitation for you, you may prefer different places, but the Contact club is absolutely able to make you forget that you even got a smartphone in your pocket.
Faust, Seoul, South Korea
Since we started from Asia, we should definitely stay for the Faust club of Seoul. It’s situated at the top of Hooker hill in the city center of Seoul, great naming of the location you can’t disagree. At Faust they host parties, concerts, and other events combining music and modern arts. If this does not sound fancy enough for you, Faust also has another advantage over the competitors: it has its own rooftop space, which unlikely of NY, is quite rare for Seoul.
What’s more, Faust owners paid a lot of money and attention to the acoustic qualities of the venue. This obviously means that the music you hear at this place is unlike anywhere else.
Bassiani, Tbilisi, Georgia
Going towards the west at the gates of the Europe we have Bassiani, the biggest techno club in Tbilisi, capital of post-soviet country – Georgia. Bassiani is a maze of poured concrete in the basement of Dinamo Arena, Georgia’s national football stadium. Because of the location, interior, music and the love of rave by the crowd Bassiani has an absolutely unique atmosphere. When beat hits and 1,200 people start to forget the rest of the world, many say it delivers one of the best clubbing experiences in Europe.
Concrete, Paris, France
You need to know precisely where you’re going or there is a big chance you will miss this club. Once you get there you will get the first shock as the exterior of the Concrete club in Paris looks like a regular ship. But Everything changes once you step inside.
It’s a place where a true techno refuge becomes the reality. It’s the hardest place to stand still and not dance. This is because the weird location of the DJ. It’s a square platform in the middle of the dance floor where the music is created and delivered to your ears.
This creates a different experience for the dance lovers and actually, that’s the key feature that makes people come back to Concrete again and again. It’s not a place for fancy clothes and never-ending selfies. It’s only about feeling the endless energy of music making you dance till 6 AM.
Ministry of Sound, London, UK
As you know from your childhood, British got a Ministry of Magic, no wonder they have Ministry of Sound too. Obviously, it’s not just a club. It’s a real corporation that used to stand together with the techno precursors in the UK. They founded this “ministry” in 1991 when the sun of techno and house venues was slowly rising in Britain. Trust me, the sun is shining quite bright now.
The company became successful and world-famous. They own clubs in different countries of the world, have their own record label, and a radio brand. They surely live up to their name, don’t they?
They gained their success for a good reason; they believe a club needs to keep up with its quality standards all the time. No wonder why the Ministry of Sound is a place where you can find the best DJs of the globe.
Lux Fragil, Lisbon, Portugal
Going west, by the edge of Europe, Lux Fragil is the most internationally recognized venue and one of the biggest nightclubs of Lisbon. It has hosted weekly events since 1998. House, techno and disco are often — but not exclusively — the soundtrack here. The venue, divided into a club space, bar and terrace, is also known for its stunning waterside location.
Nowadays, New York, USA
